Welcome to Bonsall Schools!

The Bonsall Union School District serves an 88 rural square mile area encompassing 7 zip codes.   The District began with a one room school, built in 1895, and was originally called Mt. Fairview School. The original “Little Old Schoolhouse” is now recognized as a historic landmark, added to the list in September 1990 by the Historic Site Board of the San Diego County Department of Planning and Land Use.

Presently, the District consists of 3 elementary schools and one middle school, and serves students grades K-8. Two of the District’s schools have been recognized as California Distinguished Schools. The Bonsall Union School District’s latest API results (2007) posted a district API of 795, with all schools expected to reach high established growth targets. Our facilities are places where all students can learn in an enriching and encouraging environment.  Our teachers and staff are dedicated to continuous improvement for all students.

The Bonsall West Elementary School community is located in the western section of the district in Oceanside, serving over 400 kindergarten through sixth grade students. Sixth grade students will be located on campus for the first time this year, affording the students more learning time and less travel time and the ability to continue school in their local neighborhood. The school includes a wide diversity of children and has developed educational programs designed to provide academic excellence and support for all students. The dedication of Bonsall West Elementary School’s staff, parents, and community to their students has resulted in the school’s recent high API of 846.

The Bonsall Elementary School community is located in the central and east section of the district in Bonsall, serving over 850 kindergarten through fifth grade students.  The school is brand new this year and sits atop a hill overlooking the golf course and San Luis Rey River Valley.  The old school was torn down this summer to make room for the new state of the art facility, yet the tradition of excellence is still at the core of the instructional program.  The school includes a wide diversity of children and has developed educational programs designed to provide academic excellence and support for all students. The dedication of Bonsall West Elementary School’s staff, parents, and community to their students has resulted in the school’s recent high API of 828. This year the school will be one of the implementation sites for an integrated learning environment via virtual desktops, an exciting new learning environment taking us into the future.

The Vivian Banks Charter School community is located on the Pala Indian Reservation and welcomes diversity and all students who choose its rural charm and one-to-one learning environment focused on continuous learning and improvement.  The school serves over 120 students kindergarten through fifth grade and is housed in buildings which are actually part of the historic California Mission San Antonio de Pala.  The setting is rustic and rural, yet the technology this year will be state of the art, as the school is also one of the implementation sites for an integrated learning environment via virtual desktops.  The partnership with the Pala Band of Mission Indians is of great value to the school, as the tribe takes an active interest in supporting the educational programs offered to all students.

The Sullivan Middle School community is located throughout the entire 88 rural square mile area, serving over 550 sixth through eighth grade students.  Students from Bonsall West may choose to attend Sullivan this year, but most come from Bonsall Elementary and Vivian Banks Charter.  The school facility is located close to Old Highway 395 and boasts small class sizes and a wealth of elective offerings such as band, choir, art and after school intramural sports. The school includes a wide diversity of children and has developed educational programs designed to provide academic excellence and support for all students.  The dedication of Sullivan Middle School’s staff, parents, and community to their students has resulted in the school’s California Distinguished School status.
